SPECIAL FIRE SAFETY & PARAMEDIC COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT TAX
(FIRE TAX) REFUND PROGRAM

You may be eligible for a refund of the above referenced tax for the1997-98 tax year. Due to an overlevy of these charges, refunds are being made to property owners who paid the tax for that year. The refund for an average size dwelling of 1,500 square feet is approximately $11.00. In most cases, a credit has already been made on the 2000-01 property tax bills.

In order for you to receive a refund, it will be necessary for you to complete and mail in an application for refund certifying that you are eligible to receive the refund. A copy of the form may be downloaded from the City of Los Angeles web site at www.lacity.org. (Click on "Your Government," then "General Information," and under "City Tax Programs," click on "Fire Tax Refund Program.") The instructions accompanying the claim form explain the details of this program and will assist you in completing the form. If you have already filed a claim, or have received a refund on your property tax bill, please do not file a claim for refund.
